Workamping Tips From a Pro

Workamping Tips From a Pro

You know there are just as many different types of workamping assignments as there are workampers who do them. After all, the name work smashed together with camping just means that you have been hired to do a job and in exchange you can park your recreational vehicle and be provided utilities in exchange for your work. Sometimes you get some additional monetary compensation and others they pay you outright and charge you for the campsite. As we said the work varies as does the benefits. It is really up to the company needing the work done and the workers who are willing to do the job.

Time Changes and Moving Onto New Spots

The time has changed and the days are getting shorter and shorter. Now is usually the time that most of the workampers we know have gotten their assignments or are looking to pick up new ones. The late fall and winter months in Florida are a very tough time to get workamping assignments unless someone had to cancel their service for whatever reason. There are usually a long list of people waiting to jump in to our southern Florida State Parks and you may have a better chance at the more northern areas.

Five Things to Try to Winter Workamp in Florida

One of the most popular places for RVers to go for the winter months is Florida. Yes, there are great advantages to maybe heading for southern Texas, Arizona or even some of the beach towns in Mexico but Florida is still in the running for the top spot for the months of October to March every single year. Maybe you would like to save some money on your winter RVing and decided to give this workamping thing a try. However, you are finding it very difficult to get any assignments. In this article we will list a couple of things that we have done in the past to get our assignments that might help you out in the future.

Getting Winter Assignments

Posted on August 9, 2018March 14, 2020 By Jolene MacFadden
Getting Winter Assignments

Florida is an extremely popular place with RVers in the winter months. Granted early fall not as much as from January to March of each year. So, that means that if you want any kind of workamping assignment here from about October to March then you should apply early and often as possible. You may even have to accept some assignments in areas of Florida that you might want to go just to get a position that will lead to others down the road. Referrals and references are very important to getting some of the more coveted assignments like those booked years in advance. Granted, there are a few parks that keep inviting the same people back each year and that really shouldn’t happen with any of the public land areas like state parks and wildlife refuges. Personally, I think they should post a limit of every other year or something so that other people would have a chance at working at the more popular places in Southeast and Southwest Florida. But, again, that is where those references and referrals from your fellow workampers come into play.
