BREAKING NEWS! – Florida State Parks Are In Jeopardy – Again

BREAKING NEWS! – Florida State Parks Are In Jeopardy – Again. If you have not been on social media or watched the news here in Florida in the last 10 days you may not have heard that our greedy politicians and the friends the commercial developers have decided it is in the best interests of our Florida State Parks to now have 350 room lodges, golf courses and pickle ball courts within their boundaries! I mean there is nothing that says being environmentally aware and keeping our wildlife safe that putting up big hotesl and golf courses all over their protected land areas.

Are You Looking For A Campground Host Positions

Posted on April 17, 2024May 29, 2024 By Jolene MacFadden
Are You Looking For A Campground Host Positions

MarjorieKRawlinsPark (14)Are You Looking For A Campground Host Position in Florida? Summer time is the best time to find campground host positions all over Florida. If you are looking for a winter placement you might want to consider being a Residential Host instead. We have been offered 3 different winter time assignments in Northwest, Central and South Florida as a Residential Host. The difference being that a campground host takes care of the campground area and campers while a residential host, usually by themselves, will take care of the whole park. Most of these are smaller memorial parks with limited facilities and area to manage. And the larger ones might have more than one Residential Host(s) that you can share the responsibilities and have days off.

Ichetucknee Springs Review

Posted on April 14, 2023August 13, 2023 By Jolene MacFadden
Ichetucknee Springs Review

Ichetucknee State Park is a beautiful place to spend the day. It is a smaller park by comparison to some of the others and the only real attraction is the tubing down the Ichetucknee River. For our first adventure in the RV we decided to take the entire family tubing for the weekend. There are a few places to camp in the area and the one we came across first was a private campground called (funny enough) Ichetucknee Campground which is about a mile from the State Park’s North entrance. They only allow a limited number of people in the park each day and if you do not get there first thing in the morning you may not be allowed to come in at all. The fee is pretty steep at $5 per person. They have everyone come into a special entrance in the morning, let out all the passengers, drive to the South Entrance and park. They have shuttles to return you to the tubing area. You can picnik, walk the nature trails or just enjoy the peace and quiet.

Kids Camping Activity Booklet Series

Kids Camping Activity Booklet Series

Hello, and Happy Summer Everyone! We have finally created our first Kids Camping Activity Booklet in the Florida Public Land Area Series. We will include puzzles, search-a-words, cryptograms, coloring pages, geocache maps, activity worksheets, as well as spaces to paste or draw pictures and write about your experience at the park. Teaching our kids about all the great Florida Public Land Areas is such a great way to get them outside, enjoying nature, appreciating our delicate environment, and, hopefully, teaching their kids in the future. Ensuring that we have these beautiful spaces in the future will go a long way in helping us protect mother earth.

Summer Reading for Campers

Summer Reading for Campers

Summer is a great time to catch up on your reading. We have come across another camper reading list for those who enjoy reading about RVers solving mysteries. I know I certainly do. One of my new favorite hobbies is watching TikTok videos of my fellow writers and artisans. I have created a few myself and might do some more before the end of the month. I do not think I will become a “Creator” but you never know. Anyway, getting back to the reading list. One of those TikTokers posted a quick video of book covers from mystery authors writing camping stories.

Free North Florida Springs – Part 2

Posted on March 20, 2017 By Jolene MacFadden

Free North Florida Springs – In part two of our series we will list another springs area that you can visit and not have to pay an entrance fee. Remember, our natural springs are located near a river and have a tendency to flood when the river rises. You really do not want to go into a spring that you cannot see to the bottom of and you should always be aware of snakes, alligators and other creatures that live in the area. Please do not harass the wildlife. Again, most of our springs are regulated by either Federal, State, County or Water Management Districts. Most charge a fee to visit. One of our favorites is Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park in Live Oak, Florida. It is more popular with divers than swimmers but the swimming area is pretty nice. It is not as big as some of the more popular springs state parks but nice nonetheless. On a hot summer day when the river is down you can go to this out-of-the-way area and enjoy the large shade trees, dip into very chilly water and have a picnic on the banks.
