Well We Are Not Going to Adams Tract

Posted on July 2, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

AdamsTract04282013 (43)Well, we are not going to Adams Tract River Camp. Apparently, the volunteer who was coming into Woods Ferry has gotten another assignment elsewhere. If you want to try out being a campground host then starting out at Adams Tract River Camp for the next two months or so will be a great way to start. They need someone immediately so please contact them directly. We have already posted a notice on a couple of Facebook pages and tweeted. Here is the information we posted:

Next Three State Parks

Posted on April 18, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

AlafiaRiverSP04112014 (50)The next three state parks on our list is Alafia River State Park, Hillsborough River State Park and Lake Louisa State Park.

Information for Campers:

Alafia River State Park is located just off County Road 39 in Lithia, Florida. They have a relatively small campground with about 20 spaces designated for Family Camping and 11 for Equestrian Camping. All the sites are fairly large with about half being pull-throughs and the other back-ins. They are nicely spaced but there is not much privacy. You have a grassy area around the asphalt driveways, electric and water only. There is only one bathhouse with one shower on each side (males/females). Of course, this shower doubles as ADA compliant and the hot water comes from Solar Panels on the roof. There is a wide expanse of grassy area with picnic pavilions, tables, and benches all facing a nice little lake.

St Joseph Peninsula State Park WrapUp

St Joseph Peninsula State Park WrapUp

Now that I finally have help with our craft business I should be able to get some articles posted to my various blogs and will try to start posting to Our Great Adventure every week. There is so much to report to you guys that we will start with a wrap-up of St. Josephs Peninsula, then the wrap-up with Dade Battlefield and then an update on our current assignment here at Myakka River State Park. I will be trying to get the movies made for the State Park Reviews and uploaded to YouTube as soon as I can. We have very limited internet service here and will probably have to go down to the Myakka Outpost and use their wireless service to upload the videos once I get them done.

Being a Camphost

Posted on April 18, 2013September 14, 2025 By Jolene MacFadden
Being a Camphost

Most of us “Full-Timers” will, at one time or another, become camp host somewhere along the way. We have taken two camp host assignments so far. We scheduled one for July and August when we first started out because we wanted the experience and who wouldn’t want to camp next to the ocean for two months. Money being tight we have taken an earlier workkamping gig with Suwannee River Wilderness Trail.
