Workamping at Lafayette Blue Springs SP jolenemac455, March 5, 2018March 14, 2020 We received an email last month we thought we would share with our readers. Dear Florida Park Service Friend and Volunteer, Thank you for your assistance to the Florida Park Service and the hard work, continued support and hours of dedication to caring for and protecting our resources. My name is JoAnna Lemmon and I am the volunteer coordinator at Lafayette Blue Springs State Park located in Mayo, Florida. I am a native Floridian and a native of Lafayette County so my excitement for this park and ability to work here grows with each experience. My goal is to build a great resource of volunteers for Lafayette Blue Springs State Park so long lasting work relations and an appreciation for the park remains at the center of every project. Lafayette Blue Springs located in Mayo, Florida is centrally located between Tallahassee and Gainesville. The town of Mayo has one traffic light in a very small rural setting so if you are looking for a job in nature and not the city this may be a great opportunity. The park features a first magnitude spring of 72-degree water and with a daily flow ranging from 14 to 168 million gallons traveling into the Suwannee River. The facilities here include a walk-in primitive campsite with 10 sites and 1 group camp, a day use area with 2 covered picnic pavilions and bathroom facilities, 5 cabins that are on Reserve America for nightly rental, a shop area, and a ranger station. Currently, I am looking for volunteers to help with cabin cleaning and maintenance work from March through September of 2018 and ALL of 2019. If you are interested in learning more about any of the opportunities to volunteer with us please contact me anytime at the following: Lafayette Blue Springs State Park JoAnna Lemmon – Volunteer Coordinator 4298 NW County Road 292 Mayo, Florida 32066 (386) 294-3667 Joanna.lemmon@dep.state.fl.us (best option for contact) Thank you for the consideration and most especially for volunteering with the Florida Park Service! Respectfully, JoAnna Lemmon Now, I met Ms. Lemmon when she was the Gift Shop Manager at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park and she is an extremely nice lady and easy to work with. We have also visited Lafayette Blue Springs State Park and it is a beautiful park when it is not flooded by the Suwannee. They do have a volunteer village, fenced in, by the park’s shop area with 3 or 4 campsites. The town of Mayo is pretty small and very laid back, old-boys kind of place but the little grocery store people are friendly and the prices are reasonable. Of course, if you are looking for the Walmarts then you will have to drive over to Perry or Live Oak, Florida. Both are about 20-30 minutes away.
