Happy Day It Is Done

Posted on September 30, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

InsidersGuideBookCoverHappy Day, it is done and available online at Amazon. We have been working on our eBook for full-time RVers who would like to volunteer in one of our many Florida parks including the State Parks, State Forests, Florida Wildlife and Water Management Areas as well as our Florida National Parks, Forests and Seashores. We hope you will try our eBook and give it a review on our Amazon page. We even went ahead and created an author page. We hope to use the proceeds from the sales of this eBook to allow us to keep going to various Florida public parks and volunteer.

If our eBook really starts to sell we will be able to donate a portion of the proceeds to various Florida public lands to keep them going, update equipment, maintain facilities and possibly fund more places to be set up for volunteers all year round. So far, we have only been able to volunteer at Florida State Parks but are working on assignments at some of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Management areas, county camping parks and even a couple of the Florida State Forests. They offer a different volunteer experience than the Florida State Parks we have visited and volunteer for so far. These experiences will be great to experience as well as to report to our readers.

What We All Want As Volunteers

Posted on July 26, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

InsidersGuideToCampgroundHostingInFloridaAs I am putting in the finishing touches on my first eBook I thought about all the volunteer assignments we have had and all the ones I am writing about. How they differ and how they are the same whether the management is the Florida State Parks, Florida State Forests, Florida County Governments or even the National Parks/Forests departments they all want volunteers. However, they are not all willing to give us live on-site volunteers the bare essentials to work there. Yes, most will give you a campsite but a lot of them do not think it is necessary to include a sewer on site. Now, I can see not putting sewers on all the campsites in the campground because the cost is tremendous and the impact to the environment may not be all that good. But, hey, come on the volunteers campsites are generally located next to the bathhouses. How hard is it to run a sewer line to one or two of the camp host sites? Below is an excerpt from my upcoming eBook that I thought you might like to read about this very thing.

Talbot Islands State Parks A Different Volunteer Experience

Posted on May 29, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

Big Talbot Island State Park
Big Talbot Island State Park
Talbot Islands State Parks A Different Volunteer Experience for you this summer. Not only because there are 7 different state parks being managed on the north side of Jacksonville, Florida but that they have volunteers who live in a volunteer apartment as well as the normal campground host and park hosts living in their RV/Travel Trailers. We know that there is a size little on Little Talbot Island so you have to be aware of that but read the email from Brian Stinson below to get more information:

Hi Jolene,

Just looked thru your blog… love it, wish that more people could do things like that.

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park

Posted on May 27, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

MarjorieKRawlinsPark (2)Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park is a fun place to visit and it will be a great place to volunteer for a few months. It has two parts, one is the historic homestead of the famous Florida writer and the other is the picnic area with boat launch. We visited this park while we were camping at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park and enjoyed walking the land and seeing all the artifacts from another era. They still have chickens in the yard, a garden, fruit trees and much more. The park rangers and volunteers give talks about the park, the history and stories about Ms. Rawlings. We took lots of pictures while we were there and will post them below. We hope you will consider volunteering for this lovely out-of-the-way historic park.

For those who don’t know she wrote the great classic “The Yearling”.

Falling Waters State Park Volunteers Needed

Posted on May 24, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

FallingWatersSP10042012 (98)Falling Waters State Park Volunteers Needed this summer as well. Falling Waters is a unique state park as it is considered the highest point in the entire state of Florida. And as our old RV can attest it really didn’t like it that much but we enjoyed our visit there. Since we have already posted an article for Ponce DeLeon Springs State Park and Falling Waters helps staff that park some of this information is going to be a repeat. But Falling Waters has a fairly large campground and the information below will be geared towards that information. This park also boasts a waterfall. Granted, when we visited it wasn’t flowing very fast but the boardwalk and trails leading in and around the area makes for a very nice walk. They do have a pond or lake for fishing and swimming too.

Here is the email response from the Volunteer Coordinator:

As per your request,

Big Shoals State Park Needs Volunteers Too

Posted on May 23, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

Rapids at Big Shoals State Park.Big Shoals State Park Needs Volunteers Too this summer and next. It is a day-use only park with canoeing and kayaking as well as hiking trails. We haven’t had a chance to visit this one yet but we did drive through the Little Shoals area a few years ago. I guess, “Shooting the Rapids” is the main actively for a lot of visitors to this park. But there are picnic areas, you can fish and ride your horses there as well. This park is a couple miles away from the Stephen Foster Memorial State Park in White Springs, Florida. We accepted an assignment here for the end of the year. We received two emails with information about being a Park or Residential Host here and decided to just copy and paste the information directly into our article below.

1st Email:
