We have camped at OLeno State Parks twice in the last two years. However, timing and circumstances prevented us from visiting the River Rise Preserve State Park. We did ride by it and it looked like an interesting place to check out and we may still get a chance over the next couple of months. OLeno has two camping areas as well as a huge picnic area with primitive cabins for groups like the boy scouts to spend some time in right along the river. They, like most of the state parks in Northeast Florida have been troubled by river flooding. The park has the Sante Fe River running through it and that gets water from the Suwannee River. But the waters are receding everywhere for now and there will be a lot of clean-up needed. Thank you for inquiring about the volunteer positions that we have here at O’Leno and River Rise Preserve State Parks.
At O’Leno State Park, we have 2 camp host positions. Each host is responsible for one camping loop with 30 and 31 sites in them. These positions require 20 hours of work per week including weekends and holidays in exchange of a free campsite with water, 30 or 50 amp electric, sewer hook-up, picnic table and fire ring.
We also have 2 field volunteer positions in which the volunteers work with staff on different projects throughout the park. These positions require 20 hours of work per week during the weekdays in exchange of a free campsite with water, 30 amp electric, picnic table and fire ring. Their sites are located near the bath house and dump station.
At River Rise Preserve State Park we have one camp host position at a primitive campground located approximately 8 miles south of O’Leno State Park and 2 miles west of High Springs. This facility was built for equestrian camping. There is a 20 stall horse barn, a pavilion and restrooms with a shower. This position requires 20 hours of work per week, including weekends and holidays in exchange for a campsite with water, 30 amp electric, sewer, a picnic table and fire ring.
We do have a washer and dryer at O’Leno for volunteers to use during their stay with us, for a one time $20.00 donation to our CSO to go into a fund for replacing or repairing the machines.
