Happy Memorial Day 2014. We hope all of you are having a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. For most of the country this weekend is not only about remembering those who have served our country in the military and lost their lives it is about spending time with family and friends as well. We honor their sacrifice and hope that their families are having a relaxing time this weekend. It is the unofficial start of our summer season with community pools opening up, more people are going to the beaches, kids are getting excited that school is almost out and a lot of people are looking forward to their vacations. We have seen quite a few people canoeing, kayaking and boating down the Suwannee River. We even had a small group spend their entire weekend here at our River Camp.

Falling Waters State Park Volunteers Needed
Falling Waters State Park Volunteers Needed this summer as well. Falling Waters is a unique state park as it is considered the highest point in the entire state of Florida. And as our old RV can attest it really didn’t like it that much but we enjoyed our visit there. Since we have already posted an article for Ponce DeLeon Springs State Park and Falling Waters helps staff that park some of this information is going to be a repeat. But Falling Waters has a fairly large campground and the information below will be geared towards that information. This park also boasts a waterfall. Granted, when we visited it wasn’t flowing very fast but the boardwalk and trails leading in and around the area makes for a very nice walk. They do have a pond or lake for fishing and swimming too.
Here is the email response from the Volunteer Coordinator:
As per your request,
Big Shoals State Park Needs Volunteers Too
Big Shoals State Park Needs Volunteers Too this summer and next. It is a day-use only park with canoeing and kayaking as well as hiking trails. We haven’t had a chance to visit this one yet but we did drive through the Little Shoals area a few years ago. I guess, “Shooting the Rapids” is the main actively for a lot of visitors to this park. But there are picnic areas, you can fish and ride your horses there as well. This park is a couple miles away from the Stephen Foster Memorial State Park in White Springs, Florida. We accepted an assignment here for the end of the year. We received two emails with information about being a Park or Residential Host here and decided to just copy and paste the information directly into our article below.
1st Email:
Ponce DeLeon Springs State Park
Ponce DeLeon Springs State Park is located in the Northwest Region of Florida and is administered with Falling Waters State Park. It does not have a camping area but does have Park or Residential Hosts volunteers. They are needed year round as with most all of our state parks and does have problems getting volunteers during the late spring and summer months. It is a small state park but has swimming in the springs, snorkeling, fishing in areas not designated for swimming as well as picnic area and trails. From the main website we learned that the springs is a brisk 68 degrees all year round!
Physical address to the park:

Sebastian Inlet State Park For the Summer
Sorry Folks about not posting the last two days! We have been busy here at the Woods Ferry River Camp trying to get everything ready for the upcoming weekend. Our camp and Anderson Landing are now opened for reservations, however, the other 4 are not, yet. So we have been painting, sweeping, blowing off sand and leaves and cleaning all the sleeping platforms to get ready for Memorial Day Weekend.
Anyway, we just heard from Sebastian Inlet State Park and they are looking for volunteers this summer and next. We have always wanted to visit there, camp there and now even would like to volunteer as campground hosts. Sadly, we have already accepted assignments from now until the end of October next year. But if you, a family member or friend has an RV or travel trailer and would like to spend the summer at one of Florida’s beautiful beaches we hope you will consider volunteering at this Florida State Park. Who wouldn’t want to spend their summer vacation at a great place on the beach? And volunteering as a campground host gets you a FREE campsite in return for your service.
