Cedar Key Museum State Park Volunteers Needed

Posted on May 10, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

CedarKeyMuseumStateParkSign1Spend 16 weeks in OLD FLORIDA!

Cedar Key and the surrounding area has remained unchanged for decades. Rural Levy County is still one of the most remote areas in Florida- no fast food restaurants and no chain grocery stores, just untamed wilderness and old town charm. Cedar Key Museum State Park is located in Cedar Key and it’s exhibits tell the history of the island and inhabitants. Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve is located just inland from Cedar Key and has over 13 miles of multi-use trails. Waccasassa Bay Pre- serve is accessible by boat only and protects over 34000 acres of shoreline from Cedar Key to Yankeetown.

Currently Cedar Key Museum State Park is looking for an outgoing, personable volunteer to work the museum and gift shop 3 days/week (including weekends), for 8 hour shifts. This position is working directly with park visitors, collecting admission, answering questions and keeping the facili- ties clean (detailed job description attached). This is a 16 week position and is available as early as August or September 2014.

The Volunteer campsites for this position are located at Waccasassa Bay Preserve State Park on SR 24, 5 miles east of Cedar Key. The camping area consists of 2 pull-thru sites and is located with the office/shop/residence compound. Both sites have electric and water, picnic table, grill and fire ring. This area is very quiet, has walking trails accessible from the campsites and an incredible night sky. Feel free to call the park for more details 352-543-5567.

There are also other volunteer positions available within this park complex, call the park for details 352-543-5567.

If you are interested in volunteering at Waccasassa Bay Preserve, Cedar Key Scrub State Re- serve or Cedar Key Museum State Park, please contact Christopher Camargo at 352-543-5567 or Christopher.Camargo@dep.state.fl.us
