New RV Camping Florida State Parks

Posted on February 21, 2018March 14, 2020 By Jolene MacFadden

If you haven’t heard there are new RV camping areas in two Florida State Parks. One just became a state park and the other just added camping to their park. Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park has been a private campground and recreational area for quite a number of years but recently the family sold it to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Parks Division. Since we have several “Blue Springs” state parks it is important to put the right name on it or you might just get a camping reservation where you are not expecting it.

Once, the Florida Park Service took possession of the park they had to do some improvements and are working on getting rid of any invasion plants (Don’t ya just love that duty), scheduling prescribed burns, etc. They recently opened the campground area for reservations. Currently, they have 25 campsites that are reservable, 17 RV/Camper and the rest are Tent Only. This has always been a popular local spot during the summer months so if you want to get any camping done we encourage you to go online today and reserve your spot. We will be contacting them to find out if they are ready for workampers.

The other we found out about while we were pursuing our favorite Facebook groups. Colt’s Creek State Park now has RV camping too. It has been a place to go hiking, canoeing, and fishing mostly undeveloped since it was purchased around 2006. Over the years they did develop some primitive and equestrian campsites but in 2017 they broke ground for the new campground for RVs. It seems that this past week they opened up the campground in the park and the weekends have been reserved already for several months! They haven’t updated their park page on the main website as of today but you can go to Reserve America website to reserve a space. Now they have a full-service family campground with 24 RV/Trailer campsites and 6 Tent only sites with electric, water, dump station and bathhouse. We will be contacting them as well about future workamping opportunities to add to our database. We will also have to make a trip down there to check out the new facilities.

This is so exciting. Till next time. Keep on RVing and Volunteering Y’all!
