Spring is here, and the Florida State Parks Volunteer Portal is buzzing. As of early April 2026, there are 45 campground host openings listed statewide, covering every region of Florida. Whether you are a seasoned workamper or someone just starting to explore the lifestyle, the options are genuinely impressive.
I have been following these opportunities for years, first through my own adventures with my mom and daughter, and later through the research that went into my book Insiders Guide to Campground Hosting in Florida Parks. The variety of opportunities available right now reminds me of why I fell so deeply in love with this lifestyle in the first place.

What Is Available Right Now
The current listings run through 2027, so there is flexibility for short commitments and longer stays alike. High-priority openings include positions in North Florida near the Suwannee River, Central Florida’s prairie preserves, and Southwest Florida’s Gulf Coast parks.
A few listings that stand out:
- Lafayette Blue Springs State Park (District 2) is calling for a maintenance and camp host beginning April 2026. This first-magnitude spring along the Suwannee River is one of North Florida’s true gems, and summertime draws families from across the region.
- Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park (District 3) has recurring openings running through the end of 2026. Known for its dark skies and abundant wildlife, this park calls for hosts who love a slower pace and genuinely wild Florida.
- Koreshan State Park (District 4) has several listings running from spring into fall 2026. Imagine hosting beneath towering bamboo and ancient oak trees draped in Spanish moss, with the Estero River flowing nearby. The park preserves a late-1800s utopian community, which makes every conversation with visitors uniquely interesting.
- Jonathan Dickinson State Park (District 5) is seeking volunteers in multiple roles, including campground hosts, cabin attendants, and ranger station attendants. Full RV hookups are included. Some positions begin immediately.
- The Suwannee River Wilderness Trail system runs some of the longest commitment windows, with openings at Dowling Park, Peacock Slough, Woods Ferry, and Adams Tract river camps extending all the way through 2027.
How to Apply
You can browse campground host opportunities or use the search function with keywords such as year, month, activity, or park name on the Florida State Parks Volunteer Portal. You must apply to an open opportunity directly. No general application is accepted. Once you submit, you will receive an email confirmation. Returning volunteers can log in as a Current Volunteer to apply for multiple opportunities, track their applications, and log service hours.
A Resource Worth Having
If you are new to campground hosting in Florida, knowing how the district system works, what the expectations are, and which parks are a good fit for your rig and lifestyle makes a real difference. That is exactly why I wrote the Insiders Guide to Campground Hosting in Florida Parks. It covers the application process, what to expect on arrival, duty requirements, and a park-by-park breakdown across all five districts.

Looking Ahead
Florida parks consistently fill their summer positions more slowly than winter slots. That means right now is an ideal window to get your application in for a May, June, or July start. Parks like Colt Creek, Alafia River, and Oscar Scherer have openings running through August and September, and they need people who genuinely want to be there.
If you have dreamed of waking up to birdsong instead of a commute, this might be your year.
