Alfred B Maclay State Gardens

Posted on May 18, 2014 By Jolene MacFadden

MaclayGardensStateParkSignAlfred B Maclay State Gardens is a large state park right in Tallahassee, Florida our state capital. There is a large botanical garden that blooms all year long. Who doesn’t love to stroll around well manicured grounds with a reflection pool, well-maintained paths and lovely flowers all around? They also have Swimming, Picnicking, Playground, Fishing, Canoeing & Kayaking, a Boat ramp, Bicycling, and Tours. They also need Park hosts all year round as well. Since, they do not have camping within the park you and your fellow volunteers will have the run of the park once the gates are closed! The park is open from 8:00 a.m. to sundown and the Gardens are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. You will more than like get great TV reception and cellphone reception as well.

Here are the answers we received from our email inquiry to the Volunteer Coordinator:

How Many Campground and/or Park Hosts Positions Do you have, if any? We have 2 RV Volunteer campsites. We require 24 hrs/week May – Dec. or 32 hours/week Jan – April per campsite, and the work can be accomplished by one person or split between a couple.

What kind of campsites do you have set up? (water/sewer/electric(20/30/50Amps): Hookups to water/septic tank/30 or 50amp electric

Do you have a camping rig length limit? And if so what is it. No limit

What other kinds of amenities do you offer volunteers? (Free laundry, firewood, Ice, etc.) Free access to washer and dryer, volunteers provide their own soap

What duties do you require of your Campground Hosts? We don’t have a campground. Volunteers provide a variety of duties, that varies seasonally

What duties do you require of your Park Hosts? May serve as docents in house museum or visitor center, (Jan-Apr) or may perform maintenance duties including cleaning restrooms, gardening, etc.

What time frames do you require of your live on-site volunteers? Minimum one month – maximum 4 months. Volunteers may be on-site 3 years in a row.

If you have any questions about being a Park hosts at Alfred B Maclay State Parks please contact the park directly.
